Students answer the call for Annual Fund

12 Nov 2014

The work that researchers from The University of Queensland do is changing people’s lives across the world and many of our achievements were made possible through donations to the University’s Annual Fund, which supports greatest needs in student welfare and research.

During November and December, several UQ students will be phoning alumni to share news about what is happening at UQ, hear stories and updates from our alumni, and to ask alumni to support UQ's Annual Fund.

Sarah Cunningham is one of those students who have been selected to work on the campaign, and is looking forward to connecting with alumni while raising money for her University.

“I’m keen to be more actively involved in the University, to understand what happens behind the scenes, and also to meet new people and hear the stories our alumni have to share,” Miss Cunningham said.

The Business Management/Arts student is keen to replicate the success she had working a similar campaign for UQ
earlier in the year.

“The largest donation I received during that campaign was several hundred dollars, and the alumnus who donated the money requested half be directed towards a scholarship fund, and half towards a welfare fund for disadvantaged students,” Miss Cunningham said.

Miss Cunningham moved from Melbourne in 2012 to study at the University, living on campus at Union College until earlier this year, and says UQ’s exceptional reputation for academic and research outcomes was a key factor in her selection process.

“I wanted to study interstate to try something different, and UQ really leapt out at me as somewhere I would love to study. It has such a fantastic reputation in the academic community,” Miss Cunningham said.

This reputation is a direct result of the incredible support the University receives from alumni, and the broader donor community, particularly when donations are made through UQ's Annual Fund.

Donations made to this fund carry no limitations, and can therefore be directed to students or causes that require urgent assistance.

If you happen to get a call from one of our enthusiastic students, like Miss Cunningham, please do consider making a donation. Your support can make a difference to future generations.
