Welcome to the final instalment of 'UQ by design', a 12-part Contact series celebrating the beauty and abundance of UQ's cultural assets. In this final episode, we look at UQ's stunning signage and some other decorative features of interest.

Besides UQ’s standard signage, some artistic interpretations have also been commissioned, along with other decorative pieces.

Rusty UQ signs at campus entries and the formal entry signage were designed by landscape architects Lat27 and created by Naturform company for the Gatton and St Lucia campuses.

The rusty metal Three marbles piece, located near the Business School at St Lucia, was acquired from Entanglements in Melbourne for purely decorative purposes.

And a theme based around gardening has been taken one step further with the installation of an espaliered UQ outside the Biological Sciences Library.

Finally, some highly decorative, wooden marker poles depicting Australian plants and animals can be found in the Educational Playground near the river at UQ St Lucia. Hand-carved by an artist working for Playscape Creations, some feature an in-built misting spray to provide a cooling sensory experience for passers-by. It would seem that the child-friendly pieces are adult-friendly on a hot day too!
