Is obesity inherited or acquired? How can I lose weight? Is my obesity harming me? How do I manage my child’s weight? These are some of the questions surrounding obesity that puzzle communities and individuals. Too often questions regarding obesity are accompanied by an overwhelming flood of information on a range of issues including diet vs exercise, fit-fat vs unfit-lean and lifestyle vs surgery.

Australia is among the world’s “fattest” nations and the impact of obesity on all aspects of our lives is widely reported. As such, obesity is now a major growth industry and unsurprisingly, reliable information is not always easy to distinguish for individuals or Governments.

This discussion will explore the causes of the obesity “epidemic”, the health and social implications and different approaches to weight loss and their potential benefits.
