With speakers from a broad range of industries and disciplines, we’ll dive into how to pursue your career progression goals, whilst balancing a purpose driven side hustle and explore all those hard questions like: 

  • How to negotiate with your employers to pursue your career and your purpose; 
  • How to find purpose in your profession; 
  • How to accelerate your career progression;
  • How to change industries or find a sustainable career in an area you did not study in; 
  • How to explore the social enterprise and entrepreneurship field;
  • How to enhance your employability after you graduate



9.30am Registrations and morning tea

Keynote speaker: Tamara Armstrong, Australian visual artist
11.15am Panel discussion featuring Luke Furness, Natalie Grider and Robert Hoffmann. Moderated by Linh Diep
12.15pm Lunch and activation spaces (free CV advice and LinkedIn photos available)
1.00–1.40pm Breakout session 1
1.45–2.45pm Breakout session 2 
2.45–3.15pm Keynote speaker: Corey Allen, Inspector Operational Training Services, Queensland Police Service and UQ alumnus
3.15pm Close of event. Kick off networking and drinks at St Lucy Café 
Breakout sessions 

Participants can choose two breakout sessions to practically plan steps for progressing their career in a chosen field:

Presented by the UQ Student Employability Centre, Daniel Capper. Develop practical steps for making yourself more employable in your chosen field, hear what employers are looking for, and develop the skills needed to progress your career.

From Finance to Property
Presented by Glen Wright, Development Manager at Geon Property. Hear Glen's inspirational story of how he moved from a career in finance as an Accountant at Ernst & Young, to become a ‘Place Maker’ and Property Development Manager at Geon Property. This session will explore his career progression and how you could make the move across industries, or even into Property!

Careers in the creative industries
Presented by Lachlan Snow, State Manager (QLD) of Musica Viva Australia. This session will explore the multitude of career opportunities available within the creative industries, how you can enter and progress your career into this field (whether you are creative or not!).

Finding purpose in your profession
Presented by Lara Nobel, Co-Founder of Tiny House Company. This session will explore how to find yourself a niche in your chosen industry as well as how working with people across industries can help find innovative solutions (and potentially inspire you to downsize your living situation in the meantime!)
