The Regatta Hotel was established in 1874 and has witnessed some memorable moments in the time since. The Hotel has been a celebration place for sporting achievements and the birth place of one of Australia’s first feminist movements. It has withstood flood and fire, and over a century of change.

Cassandra Byrnes

Join fellow UQ Alumni to hear PhD candidate, Cassandra Byrnes, speak about the social significance of the Regatta in relation to the broader topic of gender history, followed by morning tea.

Cassandra Byrnes is a Ph.D. student at the University of Queensland. Her thesis examines reproduction regulation in Queensland in the post-war era, and how political, moral and social control over reproductive bodies influences broader attitudes regarding gender and autonomy. She researches Australian history, gender history, medical history and histories of sexuality.
