As you know, the July 2020 graduation ceremonies have been cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions, and while this online event is not intended to be a virtual graduation ceremony, we hope it will enable our graduates to celebrate the completion of their studies with family and friends at home.

Students will still be issued their official documents in the weeks following the conferral of their award and will be invited to attend a future graduation ceremony, once rescheduled, to be appropriately recognised. For further information regarding the conferral of awards and issuing of documents, please visit the Graduations webpage.

The online celebration of graduates will be approximately 20 minutes long.

Frequently asked questions

Does this ‘online celebration’ mean I can’t attend a live ceremony in the future?

No, it is not intended that this online event would replace a formal ceremony, and all eligible students will still be invited back once we are able to safely hold graduation ceremonies. Further details are available on the Graduations webpage.

Will my name be read out during the online celebration of graduates?

No, this informal celebration is for all UQ graduates, and not specific to a faculty, school or program. It is not intended to replace a formal ceremony or to be a ‘virtual’ ceremony like you may have seen on YouTube.

Can I still hire or purchase academic dress?

Yes, if you would like to hire academic dress in order to have photographs taken with your family or friends, you are welcome to do this – however this is not required as part of the online celebration. Should you wish to purchase or hire academic dress, you can do this through our preferred supplier, Reed Graduations, at your own expense.

Please note that the colours on UQ's academic dress (or regalia) correspond with the level of your degree. For example, bachelor's graduands wear pearl white, while master's graduands wear empire blue, and so on.

Ordering regalia through Reed Graduations is the only way to guarantee you'll receive the correct academic dress. Other providers may not be able to supply the correct UQ hood colours even if the academic dress is labelled as UQ regalia.

Which platform can I watch the celebratory video if I cannot access Facebook or YouTube?

You will be able to access the video via Echo360 (the same platform from which lectures are available).

I am busy at the time of the live event – can I watch it later?

Yes, the recording will be available for you to watch and share after the live event. Keep an eye on UQ’s social media channels for the link.

How do I get more information about the catering hampers?

You need to liaise directly with the suppliers regarding any questions about the celebratory hampers. They will be able to advise on their delivery/pick up arrangements, and availability.

Do I have to use your suppliers?

The recommended suppliers are the companies we work with each year at graduations, and we know they offer quality services and goods.
