Kirsty is an experienced entrepreneur, having founded and grown multiple companies in the fields of technology and biotechnology across Australia, the US and the UK. She, and her husband Tom McCarthy, are great believers in the positive impact of education on individuals and society. Kirsty and Tom are now based in the UK and work together in creating international drug discovery and development companies.

Kirsty’s education started at UQ in the 1980s where she enjoyed a full social, academic and sporting life, captaining the UQ 1st XI in field hockey and she went on to be named in the Australian indoor hockey side. After graduating from UQ with a BA, she completed an Honours degree in history at Monash University and an MBA from Melbourne University. In 2009 she was recognized for her work in the commercialisation of Australian intellectual property by Swinburne University. This award specifically recognised her key contribution in leading an Australian company that incubated and grew an Australian laboratory technology, which became an internationally renowned company in the area of advanced speech recognition.
