Dr Elizabeth Nosworthy AO

Dr Elizabeth Nosworthy is a distinguished lawyer and businesswoman. She studied a Bachelor of Arts at UQ followed by a Bachelor of Laws, graduating in 1967 and 1970 respectively.

For more than two decades, Dr Nosworthy worked as a commercial lawyer. She was the first female president of the Queensland Law Society (QLS) before becoming a full-time, non-executive company director. In 1989 she was included in The Bulletin magazine’s list of the 50 Best and Brightest Lawyers.

Dr Nosworthy was chancellor of Bond University in 1991 and 1992, and is believed to have been the first female chancellor of a Queensland university. She has also worked as an Adjunct Professor in the TC Beirne School of Law at UQ.

Throughout her career, Dr Nosworthy has held positions in commercial, government and charitable bodies, including as a director for Telstra, David Jones and Brisbane Airport Corporation, and has served on dozens of boards and councils including the Queensland Water Commission, Port of Brisbane Corporation and Stanwell Corporation.

She is a fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and received the organisation’s gold medal (Queensland) in 2001. In 2003, Dr Nosworthy received a Centenary Medal and the QLS President’s Award. In 2006, UQ awarded her a Doctor of Laws honoris causa.
