Professor Jiang Shusheng

Professor Jiang Shusheng is an accomplished physicist and university administrator.

Throughout his career Professor Shusheng has been a passionate advocate for higher education and technology. He was president of Nanjing University from 1997 until 2006. In 2005, he established a symposium between university leaders from across the four Chinese-speaking regions to collaborate on the future direction of higher education in Chinese communities.

He has also held positions as vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the 11th National People’s Congress and chairperson of the China Democratic League.

Professor Shusheng has received a number of accolades, including the national award for “Middle-Aged and Young Expert with Outstanding Contributions at National Level”, prizes in the Scientific and Technological Progress Awards, and third prize in the State Natural Science Award. In 2009, UQ presented him with a Doctor of Science honoris causa in recognition of his contributions.
