Dr Siew Teck Woh

Mr Chancellor, 

Siew Teck Woh came to The University of Queensland on a Colombo Plan Scholarship and graduated Bachelor of Veterinary Science in 1967. After periods with the Department of Agriculture in Tasmania and the Department of·Veterinary Services in Malaysia he returned to Singapore in 1970 as Senior Production Officer with the Primary Production Department and coordinated the United Nations assisted programme to improve the pig and poultry industries. His success was recognised by his appointment as Director of the Primary Production Department, a position that he held for nine years. His achievements in this period included the starting of the Pig Waste Management programme, the establishment of the Veterinary Public Health Laboratory at Jurong, and ensuring cooperation with Veterinary Schools in Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom to promote the education and training of Singaporean students. Since 1984 he has held directorships in the commercial sectors concerned with livestock and food production. He is actively engaged in the Movement for Intellectually Disabled, Singapore, and Chairman of the Employment Development Service Committee. His outstanding contributions have already been recognised by the Singapore Government with the award of the Public Administration Silver Medal in 1975 and by the Singapore National Trade Union Congress in the award of the Friend of Labour Medal in 1983. 

Mr Chancellor, in recognition of his distinguished career and significant achievements, I present to you Siew Teck Woh, Bachelor of Veterinary Science of this University, Diploma in Agriculture, College of Agriculture, Serdang, for the conferral of the award of Doctor of Veterinary Science honoris causa, to which he has been admitted by the Senate of the University.
