UQ Future Leaders FAQ

I graduated in Semester One this year, can I still apply for the UQ Future Leaders Program this year?

Yes, you certainly can. There are two intakes for this program each year, and all students graduating in that year are invited to apply in May (Semester One) and October/November (Semester Two).

Do I have to pay to be part of this program?

This program aims to recognise and reward the achievements students have already made - there are no nomination fees or ongoing costs.

How long is the program?

When you are accepted into the UQ Future Leaders program, you will be a future leader for life. However, the first year of the program is designed to be more intensive so new graduates are able to gain value from the broader alumni community at a time that will most benefit them.

If I am already a recipient of programs such as the UQ Employability Award, UQ Young Achievers Program, UQ Ambassadors or UQ Science Leaders, do I still have to complete the online application form?

Yes, you will still need to complete an application to explain how you have demonstrated the qualities of a UQ Future Leader.

I am really keen to apply for UQ Future Leaders program, but will not be graduating this year, what should I do?

If you are not yet in your final year of study, but are interested in becoming a UQ Future Leader, please complete an Expression of Interest form so we can get in touch with you about joining the program in future when you’re ready to graduate.

Is it mandatory to attend all the events for this program?

While you will be a UQ Future Leader for life, in your first year you will be offered many opportunities that will support your transition from university. We highly recommend participating (in-person or virtually) to get the most out of your first-year experience. You will also receive special discounts and exclusive opportunities as part of the UQ Young Alumni Program, which is supported by fellow young alumni on the UQ Young Alumni Advisory Board.

I have graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree but I still have one year left to complete my Honours Degree. Should I apply now or once I have completed Honours?

We would recommend applying when you are in the final semester of your Honours Degree. This way you can fully embrace the first-year program which may not align with peak study and exam periods
