Growing up in Gladstone, Isaiah always knew that studying at The University of Queensland (UQ) would bring him closer to that ambition. However, with financial pressures already causing strains on his family, he was worried how he could make his dream a reality.

That changed the moment Isaiah received a scholarship offer from UQ.

“I remember reading the letter for the first time – my hands were shaking as I called my mum and heard her cry with relief,” Isaiah said.

With the generous support of donors, Isaiah is now living at Union College at the St Lucia campus – a home away from home.

The scholarship eased the financial burden on his family and made his relocation to Brisbane possible. Without this support, his university journey would have looked very different.

“By studying engineering at UQ, my dream of being an astronaut feels one step closer and I intend to make the most of every moment of this,” Isaiah said.

Isaiah’s story reflects a statewide reality: capable young Queenslanders live in every community, and they deserve the opportunity to come to UQ.

The Queensland Commitment fund exists to help these promising students thrive by providing scholarships to ease cost of living pressures, support them to make the most of their university experience and build the confidence to contribute positively to society.

“Thank you to all donors who support scholarships. For me, you’ve helped make such an amazing experience more accessible, especially by reducing the financial burden on me and my family. Making the most of this opportunity has meant it is an irreplaceable experience helping me pursue what I care about,” Isaiah said.

The generosity Isaiah received did more than cover basic costs; it gave him stability, community and the freedom to pursue opportunities that once felt out of reach.

For students like Isaiah, generosity doesn’t just help them get to university – it helps them thrive once they arrive.

By supporting The Queensland Commitment Fund, you can help students like Isaiah realise their dreams, enabling them to access and ultimately succeed at university.

Your gift can open the door for young Queenslanders – empowering the next generation to thrive and unlock their potential.
