Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have greater access to higher education

11 January 2021

An Indigenous-owned, Supply Nation certified IT business has created new opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with the establishment of a perpetual scholarship.

Baidam Solutions is the first Indigenous-owned Australian business to establish an endowed scholarship for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at UQ, and the inaugural scholarship recipient will be announced in mid-2021.

Pip Jenkinson, CEO of Baidam Solutions, says the company is proud to have led the way in the IT sector, and to offer their customer and vendor communities a chance to be part of this legacy.

“This is an achievement that the whole information and communications technology industry can be proud of,” says Mr Jenkinson.

“Our customers across Australia have made the choice to support a First Nations IT business, and when that choice is made, we have the opportunity to create lasting legacies such as this scholarship.”

UQ Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Engagement), Professor Bronwyn Fredericks, says the support of Baidam Solutions sets an invaluable example for other organisations.

“Baidam Solutions’ generosity and commitment towards empowering future generations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander professionals and leaders will inspire other companies to follow in their footsteps,” says Professor Fredericks.

“Together we can create change for a better world for Indigenous Australians and for all Australians.”
