Donor recognition and giving societies

Because of you

At The University of Queensland, we gratefully acknowledge the collective impact of our philanthropic community.

UQ recognises and celebrates the important role philanthropy plays in supporting its mission and strategic priorities. We are extremely grateful to all donors for their generous support and are committed to developing lifelong relationships of mutual trust and respect. The Donor Charter outlines our commitments to donors.

Our donors will have regular opportunities to see the positive impact they have made on the UQ community and where appropriate, will receive invitations to University events which provide an opportunity to engage with students, researchers and University leaders. We invite you to join us to witness the difference your gifts are already making in the lives of students, researchers and teachers here

While giving at all levels is valued at UQ, our giving societies have been established to specifically recognise leadership, legacy and loyalty within our donor community – as outlined below.

Giving societies at UQ

Mayne Circle
The Mayne Circle is named in honour of Dr James O’Neil Mayne and his sister, Mary Emelia Mayne, who enabled the University to secure the St Lucia campus and establish the UQ Medical School.

As a member of the Mayne Circle, you are part of a society that recognises the philanthropic leadership of those who, like you and the Mayne family, have given at the highest level ($1m+ lifetime giving to UQ). You are making an extraordinary difference to generations of students, teachers and researchers, and to the wider community.

You will be provided with regular opportunities to engage with the Vice-Chancellor and President, students, researchers and our senior leadership team at special events throughout the year, and will also receive annual updates on the impact of your giving.
Great Court Society
Named in honour of the beloved heart of our St Lucia campus, the new Great Court Society recognises loyal donors who have made a gift to UQ for 2 or more consecutive years.

Members play an integral part in creating world-class learning environments, supporting talented students, and enabling groundbreaking research to benefit the community, year after year.

Our loyal donors will receive personalised annual communications and may be invited to take part in special events and witness the difference their gifts are making in the lives of students, researchers and teachers at UQ.
Jacaranda Society
With your generous decision to leave a gift in your will to the University, you have become a member of the Jacaranda Society – a group of donors who like you, are determined to inspire change beyond their lifetime.

As a member of the Jacaranda Society, you are providing a lasting legacy for generations of students, teachers, researchers and the wider community.

You will be invited to special events such as the Jacaranda Society High Tea, an annual celebration which allows University leadership to thank you and recognise your contributions.
The Alumni Friends Society is named in recognition of the generosity of Australia’s first alumni network and its members.

Since 1967, Alumni Friends has donated the equivalent of more than $10 million to support UQ students, researchers and educators. The volunteer-run UQ Alumni Book Fair®, and member donations, have established numerous endowed scholarships and prizes, and supported UQ-wide initiatives.

Alumni Friends Society members receive special discounts, invitation to exclusive events and bespoke annual reporting.
