CoralWatch

Developed at UQ in 2002, the not-for-profit citizen science program aims to increase understanding of coral reefs, coral bleaching and climate change through the use of the Coral Health Chart.

The chart standardises changes in coral colours and enables citizen scientists to monitor reefs and contribute to the project’s global database.

Researchers, conservationists, divers, school students, teachers and members of the public use it. To date 7,000 citizen scientists have submitted data from more than 80 countries.

CoralWatch is largely run by volunteers and depends on the support of donors to keep their outreach and education going.
