Adjunct Professor John Story AO is a distinguished lawyer and company director; he was formerly the Chancellor, a Senator and is an Adjunct Professor of Law at UQ.
Story first attended UQ as an undergraduate, completing degrees in Art and Law. Upon graduating, he was admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland where he began his illustrious 36-year legal career.
He went onto serve as Queensland Managing Partner, National Head of the Corporate Advisory Group and National Chairman at legal firm Corrs Chambers Westgarth. During his time as Managing Partner of Corrs Chambers Westgarth, Story initiated supportive links between the firm and UQ’s T.C. Beirne School of Law.
Story also enjoyed an extensive career in senior corporate management roles including acting as Chairman of Suncorp Group Limited, Tabcorp Holdings Limited, Ruralco Holdings Limited and Echo Entertainment Group Limited.
Throughout his career, Story and his wife Georgina have been avid supporters of students at the University, the Arts sector and the broader Queensland community.
Story served as Chancellor of The University of Queensland from 2009 until 2016. Since retiring from this position, he has continued to cultivate a culture of giving back within the law community, to the benefit of students and the local community, through his work as Chair of the T.C. Beirne School of Law Fundraising Committee since 2015.
In 2015, Story was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list, as an Officer of the Order of Australia. He was awarded this honour for “distinguished service to business and commerce through a range of corporate governance roles as an industry leader and mentor in the public and private sectors, to the law and to professional organisations”.
