Mr Eddie Tang
Mr Chancellor,
Eddie Tang obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Queensland as a prelude to higher study elsewhere. He was awarded the degree of Master of Arts at the Australian National University and Master of Business Administration of Hull University in the United Kingdom as well as the Diploma.of Marketing by the Chartered Institute of Marketing in Great Britain and the Diploma of Marketing Management, Singapore. This wide range of academic qualifications provided a sound base for an enterprising and successful career in business, banking and public life. After seven years with an American multinational oil company, he moved to the consulting firm of Specialist Services Pty Ltd and was seconded to Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation to develop its marketing services function. In 1988 he became General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of FourSeas Bank setting new standards of productivity and profitability for the industry and receiving an invitation to be a Council member of the Association of Banks in Singapore. Concurrently he has been heavily involved in family manufacturing enterprises, including a joint venture partnership with the Chinese Government. In his spare time he has worked with underprivileged children promoting martial arts, and as a certified Under Water instructor teaching scuba diving to the handicapped.
Mr Chancellor, in recognition of his distinguished career and significant achievements, I present to you Eddie Tang, Bachelor of Arts of this University, Master of Arts of the Australian National University, Master of Business Administration, Hull University, Diploma of Marketing and Diploma of Marketing Management, for the conferral of the award of Doctor of Economics honoris causa, to which he has been admitted by the Senate of the University.
