Dr Skerman initial experience was gained on his family's property at Kaimkillenbun on the Darling Downs of Queensland. During his youth, the problems of brigalow and prickly pear could well have stimulated the desire to develop agricultural resources and assist workers of the land.
Dr Skerman has been an outstanding practical and scientific man who can win the confidence of students, farmers and scientists. He has not only been a teacher by word and example but has contributed to the source of rural knowledge with the writing of over seventy (70) scientific papers for Governments, societies and journals.
