Mr Timothy (Tim) Crommelin

CITATION

Chancellor,

Mr Timothy Crommelin is a renowned business and community leader with over 5 decades of experience in stockbroking, investment banking and corporate advisory roles.

Mr Crommelin began his career in the stockbroking industry in 1968 with Corser Henderson and Hale, while simultaneously studying for a Bachelor of Commerce at The University of Queensland (UQ). He graduated in 1972 and was appointed General Manager of the Girdis Group of Companies in 1974.

Mr Crommelin joined Morgan Stockbroking Ltd in 1986 and was appointed as the company’s Managing Director in 1990. He rose to become Executive Chairman of the company in 2010, a position that he held for 13 years. Under Mr Crommelin’s strategic leadership, Morgans grew from being a relatively small Brisbane-based broker into Australia’s largest full-service stockbroking and wealth management firm. As a result, Morgans was inducted into the Queensland Business Leaders Hall of Fame in 2023.

Beyond his corporate achievements, he has made a profound contribution to UQ and Queensland as a non-executive director and generous volunteer and philanthropist. Mr Crommelin has advanced UQ’s mission through 16 years of volunteer service on the University Senate, UQ’s governing body, and as a member of the Queensland Brain Institute Advisory Board, Director of the UQ Endowment Fund, member of the UQ Rugby Football Club Foundation and life member of the UQ Cricket Club.

Through his generous contributions, he has helped to create numerous educational opportunities for students, including through the Crommelin Family Scholarship. In his role as Executive Chairman of Morgans, he was the driving force behind the establishment of the Morgans Foundation, which provides substantial support to charities and strengthens our communities.

Mr Crommelin is a Master Member of the Stockbrokers and Investment Advisors Association and a Fellow of the Securities Institute of Australia.

Chancellor, I present to you Mr Timothy Crommelin, Bachelor of Commerce of this University and Fellow of the Securities Institute of Australia, for the award of Doctor of Business honoris causa, bestowed by the Senate of The University of Queensland.
