Ms Alison (Ali) Rae

“I’ve always had an interest in education and explaining issues and concepts to people in a way that they would understand. I feel lucky to be with Al Jazeera English because it’s a space to tell stories that aren’t necessarily driven by a commercial angle.”

Ali Rae is a journalist who is passionate about social change.

With a background in teaching and digital production, Rae has spent the past four years at Al Jazeera Media Network, most recently as a Digital Senior Producer at the company’s headquarters in Doha, Qatar.

She has established herself as a senior social media lead, training colleagues across departments, overseeing various online productions and at times managing the channel’s flagship social media platforms that hold more than 11 million followers. Several of her videos have reached in excess of 100,000 views online.

Rae has also worked on numerous interactive projects, including “Media Theorised”, a collaboration with journalists, artists and political activists around the world to create five videos that help audiences read media critically.

Rae’s multimedia experience has led her to cover stories across the globe, including reporting trips to southern Africa, central America and supporting Al Jazeera’s online coverage of the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo, Norway.

She has received several accolades during her short career, including being selected by the International Women’s Media Foundation for a fellowship to cover underreported regions.

Rae also received a Rotary Global Grant to attend the London School of Economics (LSE) where she completed a Master of Science (Anthropology and Development Management) and was awarded the Lucy Mair Prize for best dissertation.

Rae is passionate about social issues and is committed to giving a platform to marginalised voices.
