Schedule
  • 8:45am: Welcome – we will meet at the University of Queensland in Theatre (03-206) at the Global Change Institute.
  • 9am: Knowledge share: Why data literacy matters – learn the definition of data literacy, explore its role within education, and understand the impact of data-driven decision-making on teaching and learning.
  • 9:40am: Hands-on workshops – Data detective challenge: work in teams to analyse a fictitious set of student performance data. Identify 10 items, errors, trends or issues and report back on key insights and recommendations.
  • 10:30am: Morning tea – enjoy morning tea in the Atrium.
  • 11am: Q&A
  • 11:10am: Demo: Practical data tools for teachers
  • 11:35am: Hands-on workshops – Practical data tools for teachers: use what you've learned from the demo and collaborate with your peers to explore how you can apply tools like Google Sheets/Excel, Google Data Studio, and Power BI in your classrooms and professional lives.
  • 12:15pm: Lunch – enjoy a delicious lunch in the Atrium.
  • 1pm: Case study activity: Using data for student success: in this case study activity, you will analyse a supporting data set (such as assessment data to personalise learning or addressing behavioural trends) to explore how data can be used to promote student success. Work together to identify insights and develop strategies based on the data provided.
  • 2:15pm: Q&A
  • 2:25pm: Knowledge share – AI and sdata ethics in education: explore the principles of AI prompt engineering, the strategic applications of AI in teaching and learning, and discuss the ethical considerations surrounding its use in education.
  • 2:45pm: Reflection – revisit learning objectives and engage in a group discussion, sharing one key takeaway on data that you plan to implement today.
