Townsville Alumni and Community Event
Join us at Queensland Museum Tropics as we shine a light on the extraordinary scientific research that’s happening in Townsville’s backyard, revealing the secrets of deadly reptiles and preserving our beloved Great Barrier Reef.
UQ’s Professor Craig Franklin will present discoveries from the world’s largest and longest-running crocodile tracking program, conducted here in Queensland.
He will be joined by UQ alum Dr Mark Read from the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, who will share how research and community efforts are helping to protect the Great Barrier Reef for future generations.
Following the talks, you’ll have the opportunity to explore rare Museum collection items with UQ’s Professor Alastair Blanshard while enjoying networking drinks with fellow alumni and community members.
This free event offers a unique opportunity in the heart of Townsville to understand the impact of scientific research and the role of communities in real world conservation initiatives.
