Dive into discovery: crocodiles, sharks and science in Cairns
Join us at the Cairns Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre to celebrate National Science Week with an evening of marine marvels and cutting-edge research.
This special event welcomes UQ alumni and community members to dive into the fascinating world of aquatic predators. Hear from Professor Craig Franklin on his world-leading crocodile research, and Dr Mariel Familiar López as she shares insights into shark ecology and conservation.
Following the presentations, enjoy light refreshments and connect with fellow guests amid the beautiful surrounds of the Botanic Gardens.

UQ’s Regional Roadshow celebrates our students, staff, alumni and diverse partners across the state, and aims to strengthen relationships with leaders in education, government, and industry, alongside First Nations peoples and members of the local community.
Building on a legacy of regional engagement stretching back over 110 years, the program has visited 24 local destinations since 2021. Driven by The Queensland Commitment, we’re seeking out more ways UQ can foster the growth, health, and prosperity of communities across Queensland.
About Alumni and community events
UQ alumni and community events take place in-person and online, across the globe, throughout the year. UQ alumni are invited to join the UQ ChangeMakers platform to access early event registrations, benefits and discounts.
