Join UQ’s Friends of Antiquity for the 2025 RD Milns Memorial Lecture, ‘Roly Sussex on the role of language in science’.

Metaphor has a long-established place in scientific discovery and description. For example, the struggle metaphor in Charles Darwin’s work on the survival of the fittest.

But a study of language can give insight into the processes of scientific research and help us to understand how we construct and present scientific knowledge.

In affectionate memory of Emeritus Professor Bob Milns AM, Emeritus Professor Roly Sussex OAM will explore the workings of language in understanding the universe.

This is the last Friends of Antiquity event for 2025 and will be followed by Christmas drinks and nibbles.
