Students find stability in a year of uncertainty

11 January 2021

The impact of COVID-19 disrupted the lives of many, including UQ students and their families. But amidst the uncertainty, you generously stepped forward to assist our students in need.

In 2020, the Student Services team saw a sharp spike in calls for support, and quickly identified the need to establish the COVID-19 Student Emergency Support Fund. Throughout the year, 673 donors reached out to give more than $615,000 to enhance student services.

More than $1.15 million in financial hardship funding was granted to students, alongside grocery hamper deliveries and cooked meal services.

Importantly, your support enabled the establishment of initiatives designed to bolster student mental health – including a ‘Virtual Village’ to assist students in the transition to online learning.

For these students, your gifts provided a vital lifeline at a time when they needed it most.

Thank you for helping students through a year of uncertainty.
