Meet the UQ graduate in charge of the Brisbane Broncos

27 October 2021
UQ graduate Dave Donaghy took over the reins as Chief Executive Officer of the Brisbane Broncos this year.

The former Melbourne Storm CEO is determined to ensure the Broncos continue as a powerhouse off the field, while laying a platform to help the club return to top of the NRL ladder.

Despite his success at the helm of professional sports clubs, it wasn't the path Donaghy intended to take when he began a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Journalism degree.

After graduating from UQ, he started his career as a journalist for Australian Associated Press and the Herald Sun newspaper in Melbourne, prior to holding senior and executive positions at the Brisbane Lions and the Melbourne Storm.

"I had a wonderful experience at The University of Queensland. It laid such a terrific foundation in terms of my career, which spring boarded me all the way through.”

Watch the video to learn how a UQ degree set Donaghy on his path to leading one of Australia's biggest sports brands, and why an ongoing partnership with UQ is integral to the success of the Broncos and the University.
