The UQ School of Music is proud to present William Barton as the 2022 Kinnane Musician in Residence. Through this lecture-performance, William will share his rich musical story, and describe his life in music.

A proud Kalkadungu man, William has taken his music-making around the world and is known as one of the greatest didgeridoo players, and increasingly as a composer, pianist and singer.

He has worked with leading national and international orchestras including all the Australian symphony orchestras, and the Philharmonic Orchestras of London and Berlin. William has performed at historic events including Westminster Abbey for Commonwealth Day in 2019, Anzac Cove and the Beijing Olympics. In 2018 he won the Best Original Score for a Mainstage Production at the Sydney Theatre Awards and was also awarded Winner of Best Classical Album with ARIA for Birdsong At Dusk in 2012.

This special evening will combine rich discussion with musical performance; an opportunity to hear William Barton's words alongside his unique soundworld.
