Join UQ Science alumni and award-winning Queensland film producer, Dr Chadden Hunter, as he takes us on a fascinating journey through the hidden secrets of making nature documentaries.
 
From early beginnings in the UQ Goddard Building studying satin bowerbirds to his PhD years living ‘Gorillas in the Mist’ style amongst baboons in the Ethiopian highlands, Dr Hunter reveals the behind-the-scenes stories that never make it to television. Along the way he’ll share hilarious anecdotes, describe why a cup of tea is so important when your cabin is being ripped apart by a grizzly bear and share never-before-seen footage.

About the speaker
Dr Chadden Hunter is a Queensland wildlife biologist, filmmaker and a Bachelor of Science (1993) and First Class Honours in Zoology (1995) alum. He has spent much of the last 20 years working alongside Sir David Attenborough. After studying Zoology at UQ, including a First Class Honours degree on satin bowerbirds, he completed a PhD on gelada baboons in Ethiopia. He then went on to work as a film director with the BBC, National Geographic and Discovery Channel, filming everything from tribal ceremonies in Africa to snow leopards in Pakistan.
 
His television series’, including Planet Earth 1 and 2, Wild Arabia, Frozen Planet and Seven Worlds One Planet have won over 20 Emmy and Bafta awards. Now a fulltime Executive Producer with Wildbear Entertainment in Brisbane his latest film The Platypus Guardian recently aired on the ABC, Amazon and Apple TV.
