Stroke Research - Professor King (IMB)

More than 50,000 Australians experience stroke each year – Australia's third biggest killer*. The first 4.5 hours are critical to their survival and recovery prospects, with the only available treatment needing to be administered at a hospital within this time. With your help, researchers at IMB can take to clinical trial a drug derived from spider venom, which could protect the brain from stroke for up to eight hours and could get to patients who are far from hospital care.
