Stories of giving

As the most visited university art museum in Australia, we make a leading contribution to intellectual and cultural life through exhibitions and public programs, including curator talks, seminars, workshops, tours, master classes and concerts. We welcome all visitors from the campus and public – entry is free and we’re open seven days a week.

UQ Art Museum is the custodian of the University’s significant collection of Australian art, which comprises around 4,000 artworks, predominantly by Australian artists, as well as The Nat Yuen Collection of Chinese Antiquities featuring over 80 pieces spanning 5,000 years of Chinese culture.

We continue to build and exhibit the Collection and use it to provide opportunities for research, learning, and engagement across all disciplines. More than 60 per cent of the UQ Art Collection is the result of generous gifts from our community of donors, and as a not-for-profit organisation, this philanthropic support is essential to our operations.

Education is at the heart of everything we do. Professional Art Museum staff provide students with meaningful work experiences, including paid casual work, internships and placements, volunteer opportunities, and mentoring. This helps them gain an edge and become highly competitive as they enter the arts industry.

UQ Art Museum is passionate about building a world-class university art museum where minds are broadened, people are inspired and lives are transformed. Together we can achieve so much.
