Women in Action Fund

The Women in Action Fund was established in 2015 by the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology (EAIT) as part of a suite of initiatives aimed at increasing the representation of female students studying engineering, computer science, design or information technology programs at UQ.

The purpose of the fund is to support female students to engage in community and industry-based experiences via study tours, student exchange, and short term professional and personal development experiences.

By mobilising our best and brightest female talent, the EAIT Faculty hopes to nurture young women who aspire to careers in these fields, and positively action diversity change beyond the university environment. For every $1,000 raised, a grant can be awarded to support an aspiring female student wanting to make a global impact.

Examples of activities supported:

  • attendance at interstate or international conferences;
  • registered elite athletes attending a significant overseas athletic event;
  • HDR students undertaking an overseas internship that furthers their research;
  • attendance at 'iconic' activities (e.g. international mining games).

Mechanical engineering student and Women in Engineering Student Leader, Isabelle Fleming, used her bursary to travel to The Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands where she represented UQ Space at the International Aerospace Community Conference. “I want to build a network of young engineering professionals and further the education and opportunity for myself, my team and the next generation of aspiring engineers,” she said. Learn more about her experience with Women in Action:

Outstanding female students like Isabelle would not have had the opportunity to showcase their knowledge, expand their horizons, or build their networks without the generosity and kindness of donors. If you would like to help support inspiring young women to create change at UQ and beyond, a gift of any size will make an impact.
