Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Economics Postgraduate Support

UQ’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Economics Postgraduate Support Endowment is a needs-based fund that supports promising postgraduate Indigenous students enrolled in the School of Economics to achieve their goals and aspirations.

The fund enables students to purchase technology and travel back to country during the course of the up to two-year program. It assists Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in achieving their academic goals by helping to alleviate the financial burden that can impact success in completing their studies at UQ.

A university education can be a powerful game-changer for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with a positive impact extending to whole families, communities – and Australia as a whole. A UQ degree opens up new professional opportunities, but also higher degree research pathways to create the next generation of scholars, policy experts and community leaders.

The fund helps to increase the representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in higher education, a priority identified in the UQ Reconciliation Action Plan. It will help the development of a generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander professional economists.

How you can make a lasting difference

With a $140,000 endowment, UQ can offer two scholarships each year to eligible postgraduate students studying any of our Masters programs, such as the Master of Economics and Public Policy; Master of Health Economics; Master of Applied Econometrics; Master of International Economics and Finance; Master of Economics; and Master of Advanced Economics. Gifts help cover the costs of technology and travel back to country overt the course of a two year Masters (or combined Graduated Certificate and Masters) program. Successful students will receive $4,000 in their first year of study, and $2,000 in their second year.

Your gift is invested in perpetuity – with the current endowment distribution of 4.5% per annum to fund student scholarships forever. Donations may be pledged over a five-year period, and are fully tax-deductible.
