Throwback Thursday: Brisbane 1982 Commonwealth Games in pictures

The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games have officially begun, so Contact is taking a look back at the last time Queensland hosted the Games.

The year was 1982 – 36 years ago – and Brisbane was the host city.

Up to 20 countries were represented at the Games and Australian athletes like marathon champion Rob de Castella starred. Australia ranked first in the medal count, winning 39 gold medals, 39 silver medals and 29 bronze medals.
