Children of the revolution

  • Since 2017, NRMA Insurance has partnered with UQ to support the resilience, professional development and creation of future opportunities for Indigenous university students through the NRMA Insurance Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship.
  • National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
  • The opportunity for law students to immerse themselves in real-world legal issues is invaluable. UQ’s Pro Bono Centre provides this platform, as well as a vital resource to help meet community legal needs.
  • When we first met An Tran, she was a first year Bachelor of Dentistry student. The daughter of Vietnam War refugees, Tran was raised to appreciate opportunities and make the most of them.
  • An incredible discovery made at UQ’s Queensland Brain Institute (QBI) was shared in 2017. It has the potential to change the lives of 472,000 Australians with dementia, and the 1.6 million loved ones who provide their care.
  • They say home is where the heart is and that’s certainly the case for third-year medical student Tionne Seden, who one day hopes to return to the Torres Strait Islands as a rural GP.
  • Looking at UQ Associate Dean of Indigenous Engagement for the Faculty of Medicine Dr Maree Toombs, you wouldn’t think she has a truck licence, but you’d be surprised!
