Join us for a musical Mother's Day afternoon and witness the UQ Symphony Orchestra in full flight, in a program of powerful visions from the old and new worlds. The characters of Verdi's La forza del destino are painted against a backdrop of political and cultural tensions between Italy, Spain and Germany in the mid-18th century.

Similarly, the touching story of a pioneer couple in Copland's Appalachian Spring takes place within a panoramic vista, a vision of America's post-war frontier. Finally, Haydn's 104th Symphony, his very last. Whether or not it deliberately evokes the English capital as the nickname "London Symphony" suggests, it is forever linked to that city and its bustling energy.
