Ted White AM Opportunity Fund

Hailing from regional Queensland, Emeritus Professor White, better known as Ted, arrived at The University of Queensland as an undergraduate student in 1951, graduating with First Class honours four years later.

After completing a doctorate overseas, Ted returned to UQ where he inspired students for more than 40 years as a lecturer, senior lecturer, reader and finally, as a professor in the School of Chemical Engineering.

Even after finishing his teaching career, Ted continued to supervise PhD students in the School for a further 20 years, touching countless lives.

To honour our friend, colleague and valued teacher, Emeritus Professor Ted White AM, and the lasting impact he has had at UQ, the School of Chemical Engineering’s Priority Fund has been re-launched as the Ted White AM Opportunity Fund.

This flexible, endowed fund supports chemical engineering students with a range of activities including, but not limited to:

  • Providing opportunities for women in chemical engineering;
  • Providing opportunities for low-SES students and those suffering financial hardship;
  • Supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to pursue careers in chemical engineering;
  • Providing wider opportunities for students to attend study tours, industry placements, and conferences;
  • Supporting the purchase of plant and equipment to ensure students have access to world class teaching resources and facilities.

If you would like to help continue Ted’s legacy and provide life-changing opportunities for the next generation of chemical engineering students, please consider making a donation.
